Core Cards

These are the core cards for the deck (best to have 2 copies of each in the deck):

  • a1-164-ekans
  • a1-165-arbok
  • a1-176-koffing
  • a1-177-weezing
  • a1-222-koga
  • a1-225-sabrina

You can swap out a1-223-giovanni for another copy of promo-2-x-speed or Red Card as you see fit. I see some other players use a copy of promo-12-meowth to some extent; but personally I don't fancy having a redundant draw engine on top of Professor's Research and Poké Ball.

Arbok Weezing Deck Guide

This deck list aims to be an aggressive tempo deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket, putting pressure on the opponent's Pokémon at the Active Spot. It's both incredibly aggressive, aiming to score points on the opponent's Pokémon as quickly as possible, while also being disruptive to their overall strategy.

Using Sabrina to bring out Gardevoir and locking it in the Active Spot

a1-165-arbok, in particular, stands out as a phenomenal control card in this deck. Its Counter ability hits hard, dealing 60 points of damage for just two energy (and an extra 20 damage against psychic type Pokémon). What makes it even more powerful is its ability to prevent your opponent from retreating, often allowing you to secure prize points that would otherwise be out of reach. a1-225-sabrina works especially well with a1-165-arbok, as you can switch out your opponent’s main attacker, locking their backline Pokémon into a "prison" with nowhere to run.

a1-222-koga, plays a pivotal role alongside a1-177-weezing. Weezing, with its hefty health pool, can endure a hit or two before you use a1-222-koga to safely return it to your hand. This strategy allows you to reset all energy attached and also the damage a1-177-weezing has taken, which isn’t a big issue since it only requires one energy to attack.

Match-ups and Strategy

These are general strategies that work well against specific decks, though many of them can be applied more broadly across other matchups too.

You would want your a1-177-weezing to tank the damage from a1-96-pikachuex while you setup your a1-165-arbok. Poisoning a1-96-pikachuex before using a1-222-koga and using Counter with an a1-165-arbok will usually secure you 2 points. After that, just use a1-225-sabrina to swap out their second a1-96-pikachuex and apply offensive pressure as usual with a1-165-arbok to secure the last 3rd point.

If you're going second, place a1-164-ekans at the Active Spot and whack that a1-129-mewtwoex for 40 damage before naturally evolving to a1-165-arbok to deal another 80 damage while locking it in place helplessly. It's usually an auto-win at this point of the game. If you're going first, it's best to place a1-176-koffing at the Active Spot while you setup your a1-164-ekans and a1-165-arbok.

Arbok Weezing Deck Weaknesses

  • Any type of Fighting type decks folds this deck hard. You really need good draws to secure a win against those decks.
  • The deck only has 4 basic Pokémon cards and I find myself losing matches because I can't draw the other a1-164-ekans or a1-176-koffing cards on-time.
  • a1-4-venusaurex eats a1-165-arbok for breakfast. I consider this match-up an auto-lose whenever I see a a1-1-bulbasaur comes into play.

Closing

While this deck isn't a META deck, it will come in handy if you're meeting a high percentage of a1-129-mewtwoex decks while queuing in versus mode at any given time. Thanks for reading my Arbok Weezing deck guide!
