Top 3 Mythical Island Decks to Try Out!

Here are my Top 3 Mythical Island Decks that I will play test during expansion's launch week! Improving existing decks in the current META.

Introduction

On December 17th, 2024 I will be personally trying out these top 3 Mythical Island decks! Mythical Island (A1A) expansion will be coming out for Pokémon TCG Pocket in a few more hours after this post goes live and I can't wait to tinker my existing decks with the new cards.

The cards that has caught my attention after the new trailer drop are a1a-77-mew-ex, a1a-84-aerodactyl-ex, and a1a-82-leaf. Let's look into some decks that I have theory crafted before the expansion release.

Charizard EX ft. Leaf Theorycraft Deck

Both a1-47-moltresex and a1-36-charizardex requires 2 energy retreat cost. With a1a-82-leaf, Charizard EX deck enjoyers will be able to swap out Moltres EX easily to bring in a1-36-charizardex to start burning the opponent's Pokémon.

Usually, players would need to use promo-2-x-speed and burn an energy to retreat a1-47-moltresex. Under unfavorable circumstances, 2 energies would be used to retreat a1-47-moltresex, which can sometimes disrupt your Crimson Storm play. a1a-82-leaf will enable clutch retreat plays and make it easier to attach an energy more efficiently. a1-216-helix-fossil is there to counter Sabrina plays from the opponent.

Aerodactyl EX Theorycraft Deck

Why will I be playtesting this deck?

a1a-84-aerodactyl-ex ability, Primeval Law prevents opponents from evolving their Active Pokémon from hand, slowing down their strategy and giving you a significant advantage. For example, your opponent goes second and has a a1-74-staryu at the Active Spot and attaches a water-energy to start smacking. The probability for them to follow-up with a1-76-starmieex in the next turn would be high, so what should you do? You have a1a-84-aerodactyl-ex to stop their aggression and begin to do 80 consistent damage each turn.

This is a card I am hyped for and looking forward to trying out once the Mythical Island goes live in Pokémon TCG Pocket. I can't wait!

Mew EX is a basic EX Pokemon with 130 HP, which is slightly below average but still respectable. Its first attack, Psyshot costs one energy and deals 20 damage. However, its second move, Genome Hacking, is where things get crazy. For three colorless energies, a1a-77-mew-ex can copy any attack from your opponent’s active Pokémon. This ability alone makes it a nice addition to my existing Blaine Deck that suffers against heavy hitter decks featuring a1-129-mewtwoex or a1-280-charizardex.

In the current meta, Mewtwo EX and Charizard EX decks dominate the META. Mew EX has the potential to counter these strategies perfectly. It can copy Side Drive from Mewtwo EX and strike back before Mewtwo gets a chance. Against Charizard, Mew EX can mimic Crimson Storm and deal massive damage. Well... it sounds great on paper, I still need to test this deck out which leads us to the conclusion.

Conclusion

By no means am I telling our readers to spend their points to craft these decks! I am simply sharing some of my theorycrafted decks before the expansion launch. Thank you for reading my Top 3 Mythical Island Decks that I will personally pilot during the first week of the expansion's launch. After that, more deck guides will follow after some ironing out of decks with the additional 80 cards we will be getting from the expansion!
