Introduction

Exeggutor Vileplume Deck Guide

Welcome to my Exeggutor Vileplume Deck Guide! This deck features the fast hitting a1-22-exeggutor and a1-23-exeggutorex along with a strong Grass-type control card, a1-13-vileplume. We'll be looking at some deck lists, discussing on the core cards, looking into the main guide before wrapping things up.

Exeggutor Vileplume Deck Strategy

  • Begin the game with either a1-21-exeggcute or a1-198-farfetchd
  • a1-11-oddish should always start at the bench
  • a1-23-exeggutorex and/or a1-22-exeggutor is used to provide a early game pressure while you setup your a1-13-vileplume

a1-13-vileplume is the deck’s centerpiece, it has an awesome ability, Soothing Scent which inflicts a guaranteed Sleep status on the opposing Pokémon. By putting opponents’ Pokémon to sleep, a1-13-vileplume forces them to flip a coin each turn to see if they wake up. This 50/50 chance significantly reduces their ability to attack or retreat, slowing down powerful EX attackers before they make those big painful damage.

Additionally, a1-13-vileplume’s 140 HP synergizes well with a1-219-erika’s healing, allowing it to survive multiple rounds of attacks from common EX threats like a1-96-pikachuex and/or a1-76-starmieex while having a 50% chance to technically "one-shot" those Pokémon - I've also explained thoroughly why a 80 damage + sleep effect is strong via my Wigglytuff Deck Guide.

Both a1-23-exeggutorex and a1-22-exeggutor provides strong early-game support and aggression. These cards only requires a single energy to attack which lets you allocate resources towards powering up a1-13-vileplume, giving a1-23-exeggutorex or a1-22-exeggutor a crucial role in setting up the deck’s late-game strategy. Its flexibility makes both these cards an ideal opening Pokémon, able to apply early pressure while you prepare your main attacker. Additionally, the high HP value enables a1-23-exeggutorex to challenge opponents like a1-282-mewtwoex toe-to-toe with only one energy.

Erika

a1-219-erika is invaluable in this deck, offering powerful healing support (only for Grass-type Pokémon). Her ability to heal 50 HP extends all a1-23-exeggutorex, a1-22-exeggutor, or a1-13-vileplume's durability, letting them withstand two to three hits from most EX Pokémon. a1-219-erika’s healing can be the difference between a a1-13-vileplume surviving for another critical attack or being knocked out.

Deck Weaknesses

  • Fire-type Pokemon beats Grass-type Pokemon in this game. If you see a a1-47-moltresex powering up a a1-284-charizardex successfully, it's best to hit that concede button.
  • Relying on coinflips. If you win coinflips consecutively with a1-13-vileplume, you'll be dealing 160, 240, 320, 400 damage! But failing a coinflip isn't too bad, (as explained earlier) a1-13-vileplume has a decent HP base to make sure you have more opportunities to win that 50/50.

Closing

a1-13-vileplume is a good Pokémon in this game. It's the same card with a1-195-wigglytuffex but will only award 1 match point to your opponent if it gets knocked out. A little slower to setup but both a1-23-exeggutorex and a1-22-exeggutor covers the early game weakness. a1-198-farfetchd is just there to ensure you don't draw into a1-11-oddish at the beginning of the game too often.
