Introduction
Welcome to my Mewtwo ex deck guide! There are many variants for a1-129-mewtwoex decks out there but I decided the lists presented below are the most common and effective. I'll be explaining some of the tech inclusion some players are using and why some brews are cutting 1 copy of a1-130-ralts in their decks. a1-129-mewtwoex decks has 1 mission: obliterate ALL your opponent's Pokémon with Psydrive for 150 damage until kingdom comes.

Core Cards and Inclusion/exclusion
These are the core cards for the deck (best to have 2 copies of each in the deck):
- a1-129-mewtwoex
- a1-130-ralts
- a1-131-kirlia
- a1-132-gardevoir
Excluding 1 copy of Ralts
Since the game guarantees you to have a basic pokemon in your hand when the match starts, the probablity for you to get a1-130-ralts earlier on is 50% if you're running 2 a1-129-mewtwoex and 2 a1-130-ralts. By removing 1 copy, you increase the odds of having a1-129-mewtwoex as your starting Pokemon (66% probability). This situation is far more better than having a1-130-ralts at the front line only to be knocked out - if this happens, it will usually ends in defeat for you.
Inclusion of Jinx
Some players include a copy of a1-127-jynx to deal massive damage against a fully setup a1-36-charizardex. This tech inclusion enables you to potentially get 2 match points while only losing 1 point to your opponent. If your a1-129-mewtwoex gets knocked out, you can quickly setup your a1-127-jynx with the help of a1-132-gardevoir Psy Shadow for the counter attack.
The case for Meowth
Some players recommend using a1-196-meowth in early game stages to draw cards with its Pay Day move; becoming an additional draw engine in the deck to reach your game plan faster. I personally don't fancy this card since this Pokémon is very squishy and the move only deals 10 damage per turn giving your opponent extra time (and probably 1 match point) to setup their own game plan in the process.
Mewtwo ex Deck Guide
The Deck in a Nutshell
At the core of the deck lists are a1-129-mewtwoex and a1-132-gardevoir. Mewtwo ex has a high damage move, Psydrive, dealing 150 damage but requiring the discard of two Energy. With Gardevoir's ability Psy Shadow, you can ramp up Mewtwo ex's Energy, allowing it to use Psydrive in successive turns. Each turn, Gardevoir attaches a Psychic Energy from your Energy Zone to Mewtwo ex, while Mewtwo ex also receives an additional Energy directly, keeping the attack loop consistent.
The deck relies on a1-130-ralts evolving into a1-131-kirlia and eventually into a1-132-gardevoir. This evolution chain is essential for maintaining the deck’s Energy strategy and supporting a1-129-mewtwoex offensive capacity.
The Gameplan
When entering a match, the goal is to evolve a1-130-ralts quickly and set up a1-132-gardevoir as early as possible. Starting with a1-129-mewtwoex at the Active Spot while using its ability Psychic Sphere to ward off the opponent's early basic Pokémon. Once Gardevoir is active, you can maintain a1-129-mewtwoex Energy requirement and execute Psyrive each turn without stalling.
For mid-game, focus on sustaining a1-129-mewtwoex health and field position by using X-Speed. This card enables smooth transitions between Pokémon, especially if Sabrina is in play, helping you to maintain optimal positioning between the Active Spot and the Bench. The deck's setup is straightforward but lethal—once your combo is active, the consistent 150 damage from Mewtwo ex’s Psyrive becomes challenging for opponents to overcome.
Match-ups
The deck maintains a consistent strategy and game plan, no matter the type of deck your opponent is using. Because of this, the deck allows players to focus on executing their core tactics effectively without needing to adapt to different matchups or play styles. Just have a1-129-mewtwoex and evolve your bench pokemon until you get a a1-132-gardevoir. Simple deck but very powerful combo.
Deck Weaknesses
- Since you only run 4 basic Pokémon (referring to the first deck list above), you may find yourself bricking your hand with item/supporter cards.
- This deck gets beaten up by an early setup a1-76-starmieex before you get the chance to get your combo going.
- a1-129-mewtwoex faces a notable disadvantage against Arbok decks due to its type matchup. a1-165-arbok Corner ability can trap a1-129-mewtwoex at the Active Position, preventing it from retreating and making it vulnerable. As a result, Mewtwo ex often ends up getting knocked out before it has a chance to counter or eliminate a1-165-arbok, making this matchup an auto-lose.
